Jörg Straube was born in Bremen in 1953. His passion for conducting became evident while studying school and church music; he founded several ensembles, including in 1981 the Norddeutscher Figuralchor.
In 1983 he was awarded the Nie-dersächsisches Künstlerstipendium (Lower Saxony Artist Scholarship). In 1986 he began as conductor of the Bach choir at Hanover's Marktkirche.
The fact that he is professor at the Academy of Music in Würzburg and at the Escolas dos Artes in Porto (Portugal), as well as guest conductor with the choirs of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk Hamburg, the RIAS Berlin, the Süddeutscher Rundfunk and the Rundfunkchor Berlin all point to his high artistic standing.
Jörg Straube has won numerous awards in national and international choir competitions with his ensembles; his choral music recordings with the Norddeutscher Figuralchor have often been singled out for record awards.
